Lately it seems like everyone and their granny is big into the juicing craze. Whether just as a few day detox or a permanent way of life, I can certainly see the appeal.I became curious when I heard the benefits includingWeight Loss, Clear Skin and a general feeling of well being.
My curiosity grew and I googled juicing Ireland. I was faced with a number of different companies that offer juice detoxes. They all sounded great but one company that stood out for me was Juice Delivery Dublin. I emailed Elaine who runs Juice Delivery Dublin to see if she could offer some insight into Juicing. She very kindly answered a few questions for me.
1. What are the benefits of a juice detox?
Most people in today’s western world are over fed and under nourished, so juicing gives your body the chance to absorb essential nutrients. Juicing can be incredibly beneficial to your health and well-being. Vegetables and fruits nourish every cell in the body, help prevent disease, flush the system of waste and contain more vitamins and minerals than any other foods we can put into our body. A juice fast allows the digestive system a complete rest from breaking down solids and so we literally ‘soak up’ the goodness of the juices, your body is healing itself over that time and so that’s why you see such clarity and brightness in your eyes and skin.
2.Are there any side effects of a juice detox?
Only good ones!!! Some people can feel tired on Day 1 as their bodies are completely cleansing but then get their energy on Day 2 and then they feel amazing!
3. Is there anything I need to do to prepare for a detox?
Planning ahead and being prepared make a juice fast so much easier, I would always advise people to arrange their schedule to allow for their detox, don’t try and do it when you have a hectic social schedule and do it at a time when you can get lots of rest as this really helps. Anybody can do anything for 3 short days and once you get into it you really do get such a kick out of feeling so good! You will be dying to try the 5 and 7 day detoxes – it’s addictive!
4. Will I feel hungry during a detox?
You shouldn’t feel hungry as you are having 5 juices per day, plus you are taking in more fruit and vegetables than you could ever physically eat over the space of the detox…… for example over our 3 day detox you consume 28 apples, 1lb of spinach, 4 pieces of fresh ginger, parsley, lemons & limes, 6 carrots, 2 whole raw beetroots, 5 large ripe avocados, 1 yellow pepper, 4 cucumbers, 6 broccoli stems, 1 whole large pineapple, 6 celery sticks, 500grams of kale
5. If I do feel hungry, what can I do about it? / What other fluids can I take?
We recommend you drink 2 to 3 litres of water each day, a lot of hunger can sometimes just be thirst! Hot water and fresh lemon is really good to curb hunger pangs and is also amazing for cleansing & detoxing so drink as much of that as you can! All herbal teas are fine too except for green tea during a detox as this contains caffeine
6. What exercise do you recommend (if any)?
We also recommend you try and exercise during your detox – a good walk is always good for the mind. Try and even get out in the fresh air for 30 minutes a day
Have early nights while you are on your detox, you will feel and look better for it - give your mind a rest as well as your body! Your body will repair and detox much faster when you’re asleep.
8. After my detox how do I go back to eating solid foods?
When you have completed your detox your body will need time to re-adjust to ‘normal’ eating habits, you also want to maintain the benefits you have gained, so start with salads and light healthy meals!
I'll admit that I am definitely intrigued. Elaine has kindly given me a three day detox to see the results for myself. I've started today so will update you Thursday on how I get on.
Have you or would you try a juice detox?
