D.I.Y Nail Polish

You may not know this about me but I am big into D.I.Y. Forget the household type, for me beauty D.I.Y is a huge love.

While having a browse on the internet the other day, I decided to google how to make your own nail polish.Turns out it's relatively easy to do so I thought I would give it a bash.

Here's what I did:
  • Choose an eyeshadow colour that I thought would make a nice nail polish.
  • Use a butter knife to scrap out the eyeshadow into a clear bag.
  • Take my frustration out on the bag and crushed the shadow into fine powder.
  • Empty 1/3 of my clear nail polish out onto a piece of clingfilm so I could dispose of the nail polish properly. (You can use white polish to get a more pigmented effect)
  • Make a funnel out of paper.
  • Place the funnel into the nail polish bottle then pour in the eyeshadow.
  • Shake! Shake! Shake!
* I actually tipped too much of the nail polish out, next time I will be much more careful*

Here is the result

Once settled the polish does separate a little but nothing that a good shake won't fix

Making my own nail polish was great fun, something I will definitely be doing more of but I think next time I will pick up some coloured mica powders. The main reason for this is there was far too much mess breaking up the eyeshadow.

*Competition Alert!! Leave a comment below on what you think about DIY Nail Polish and what your favourite nail polish colour is and one commenter will have a nail polish made up for them. Don't forget to include where you follow me so I can contact you if you win*

I've a couple more posts lined up on the DIY Nail Polish theme so stay tuned.

*If you are having a go at this, please do so in a well ventilated room. Also  just add a little bit of eyeshadow at a time because too much will make a thick unusable polish*

Illamasqua Mystery Box

So yesterday, I finally caved and purchased the much acclaimed Illamasqua Mystery Box. I blame all the lovely bloggers who purchased them at the meetup. At the time, I was all "Oh I don't need anymore makeup" Then I slowly began to change my heart, purely because I really wanted to try the brand and at €23, there is no question what a bargain it was.

In the mystery box, you definitely get a gorgeous neon nail polish called Collide and a fabulous cream eyeshadow called Electrum.

I love both of these so much!!

Now comes the mystery part, the bit that was both fun and terrifying at the same time. I was praying I wouldn't end up with too many weird and wonderful colours and it turned out pretty good with these two lovelies.

The blue eyeshadow is called Dance. I'm not completely sold on the idea of this but will give it a try. What I was really hoping for was a colour that would go with Electrum. I wasn't actually paying much attention to the eyeshadow last night and thought I had received a navy, imagine how shocked I was when I actually looked at it properly.

The lipgloss is a pretty intense pinky orange called Induige and something I will definitely wear. The only slight problem is that it is a little bit sticky

Alas, nothing is ever 100% perfect, and I ended up with a matte orange blush called Expose and coppery lipstick called Flicker. Both lovely but colours that personally I wouldn't wear.

I am going to add these two into my blog sale that I am preparing for. I'll also possibly add Dance.

Have you picked up any of the Illamasqua Mystery Boxes?

Bourjois Color Boost

The other day while in work, we received the new Bourjois Color Boost Crayon. To say I was excited would not be an exaggeration. I've always liked the look of the Clinique chubby but have never handed over the money for them. The main reason is because of the mixed reviews that I have read.

The blogger in me immediately started swatching them took out my camera and started snapping away.

*Colours From Top to Bottom are Red Sunrise, Fuschia Libre, Orange Punch, Peach on The Beach*

I loved Fuschia Libre so much that I just had to buy it there and then.

What I really like about these is that they aren't too pigmented and are in between sheer and matte.

These lovelies retail at €10.49 and are available on all Bourjois stands.

Do you like the look of these?

Phoenix Park Fun

Over the last month, we have spent a fair bit of time in Phoenix Park. Something I haven't done since I was a child. I really don't know why we have neglected it, because it is such a lovely place. Of course, while there we had to visit the zoo. Not once but twice. One for little man's birthday and once meeting up with one of my sister in laws and her family.

We headed there yesterday aswell, but this time we took a leisurely drive around the entire park and luckily the insane rain held off until just before we were leaving. What we saw there was amazing! There was an entire herd of stags just chilling out by the Papal Cross. I love deer so was in my element. We actually got pretty close to them.

If you're looking for a nice relaxing day out, Phoenix Park is the ideal place.
